Frequently asked question
Locomotiva di Momo welcomes children from 6 months to 6 years of age, supporting families through a journey that includes the Nursery and the Pre-school.
Our approach is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, which values the “hundred languages” of expression and considers every child the protagonist of their own growth, capable of constructing meaning. This vision is integrated with the “Una scuola” Manifesto, promoting learning as a community experience, rooted in the territory and open to the world, with a strong focus on Outdoor Education and social-emotional development.
Yes, Locomotiva di Momo is part of the Becoming Education network, an educational project for children aged 0–13. This membership allows the school to benefit from pedagogical research, shared tools, and continuous professional development through the Becoming Academy, while maintaining its local identity.
The child is an active protagonist of their own development. They are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and experiment in an environment that respects their individual pace and values their uniqueness. The goal is to allow everyone to realize their potential within a welcoming community.
Bilingualism
Yes, bilingualism at Locomotiva di Momo is a core value and part of everyday life. Italian and English coexist daily in every moment: from routines to play, from relationships to the very way children learn.
We use the “one teacher, one language” method: the sections are consistently staffed by one Italian-speaking teacher and one English-speaking or bilingual teacher, who speak to the children exclusively in one language. English enters daily life through live communication, reading aloud, songs, and outings in the local area, allowing for natural and intuitive learning.
No, it is not necessary. The approach makes learning spontaneous and natural, without any pressure. Children are immersed in a bilingual environment where English becomes a tool for understanding the world through direct experience.
Daily Life
Schedules vary by branch:
- Via Anfossi branch: Nursery and Pre-school offer a Full Time schedule from 8:00/8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with after-school care until 6:30 PM. A Part Time option (8:00 AM – 1:00 PM) is reserved for the 6–11 months age group.
- Via Tolstoi branch: Nursery offers before-school care (7:45–8:15 AM), Part Time (8:15 AM – 1:00 PM), or Full Time (8:15 AM – 4:30 PM) with after-school care until 6:00 PM. Pre-school follows a Full Time schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with after-school care until 6:00 PM.
The day follows a reassuring rhythm. At the Nursery, it is marked by the welcome, play, snacks, lunch, and personalized rest. At Pre-school, it begins with the morning meeting (assembly), a moment of dialogue where “the I meets the We” to organize the day, followed by research projects, exploration, and workshops.
Yes, both branches have an internal kitchen. We offer seasonal and balanced menus, developed with expert nutritionists and approved by the ATS (Local Health Authority) to ensure high standards of quality and safety.
Great attention is paid to food intolerances. For the youngest children, the menu is shared between the family, the nursery, and the pediatrician to ensure new foods are introduced gradually.
Yes, Outdoor Education is a core value and a way of experiencing Locomotiva di Momo every day. Nature is considered an extension of the classroom: we use the garden (at the Via Tolstoi center), public parks (like Formentano Park for Via Anfossi), and the neighborhood (Urban Outdoor) for regular outings in all seasons.
Settling in and Relationship with Families
- At the Nursery: We adopt the Participatory Settling-in It usually involves three days in the facility with the active presence of a parent; the subsequent timing is flexible and tailored to the child’s readiness.
- At the Pre-school: Children are welcomed by encouraging their autonomy from the first day. Parents participate in preparatory moments and are invited into the section for part of the morning on the first day.
Communication is daily and based on trust and collaboration. We use Kindertap, the app we use to update you every day on meals, rest, experiences, and useful information. We also practice visible learning: through photos, videos, and diaries, we narrate the children’s growth processes. Additionally, our educationalist constantly supports the team and families to strengthen the educational partnership.
Every child has the right to learn according to their own characteristics. Our educators and teachers are trained in managing IEPs/PDPs (PEI/PDP) and collaborate with specialists to ensure attention to the uniqueness and individual pace of each child.
