“100 languages” approach

The atelier is one of the iconic venues of the ‘100 languages’ approach. It is the creative heart of the school, a space where ideas take shape and knowledge is built through different languages.

It is a dynamic space for exploration, where children explore the languages of graphic design, modelling, light and digital art using tools and materials that encourage them to observe, experiment and view things from different perspectives.

In the studio, time has a quality all of its own. Explorations remain open-ended; the works are often a work in progress. There is anticipation, there is effort, there is discovery. The children explore, formulate hypotheses and revisit their explorations; the educators observe, guide and create contexts that enable them to explore these ideas in greater depth.

In Giocomotiva’s nurseries and pre-schools, the ‘atelier’ approach extends to other areas too: carefully designed spaces, materials and tools encourage children to observe, explore, create and transform. Because creativity isn’t confined to a single room, but is part of everyday life.
